Bruce Smith

Bruce Smith, of Austin, TX, has been selected as the 2019 Buddy Holly Education Foundation’s Scholarship Award Winner. As a resident performer at the Saxon Pub, Antone’s and the Driskill Hotel, Bruce has been a fixture in the Austin music scene for nearly 20 years.

’59 Stratocaster, a song written for the major motion picture in production, Clear Lake, about the last guitar Buddy Holly played, has been lovingly endorsed by Buddy Holly’s widow, Maria Elena. Bruce has performed the song in Lubbock for Buddy’s Birthday Celebration for the past three years.

His latest CD, ‘Til The Wheels Fall Off, has received much critical acclaim drawing comparisons with the likes of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon and Mark Knopfler among others.

Bruce is most honored to follow in the footsteps of past Scholarship Award winners Yungblud, Peter Donegan, Sarah Douga, Robert Vincent and Grace Pettis and to enthusiastically uphold the Foundation’s mission of keeping the indominitable spirit of it’s namesake alive and rocking.
