Willie Nile named Legacy Ambassador for The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation

Foundation Board member Peter Bradley, Junior awards One Special Guitar – “Heartbeat” – to Willie Nile at Leeds Show

The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation is delighted to announce that Willie Nile joined the Foundation as a Legacy Ambassador on April 25, 2013 in a ceremony at The New Roscoe, in Leeds, UK. Foundation Board Member Peter Bradley, Jr. made the presentation on behalf of TBHEF, presenting a replica of Buddy Holly’s original Gibson guitar, the “Heartbeat” guitar, to a talented and dynamic performer and songwriter, Willie Nile.

Whether performing at home on the “Streets of New York,” or appearing in the many countries around the world that he regularly visits, Willie Nile’s brilliant live shows always express passionately and energetically the issues of the day, with meaningful and relevant lyrics that are both thought provoking and uplifting. Willie is one of the great American Troubadours, from the old school of acclaimed singer/songwriters. He is a wonderful artist who follows in the footsteps and traditions of legendary storytellers such as Jimmy Rogers, Pete Seeger, and Bob Dylan, but like Dylan, Willie went electric a long time ago and also acknowledges and has a real respect and love for the great original music and artists from the Rock n Roll era, especially Buddy Holly.

The award presentation at the Leeds show was a brilliant affair, with Mr. Bradley’s introduction and award, followed by a heart-felt tribute to Buddy Holly by Willie, who lauded Buddy’s extraordinary influence on rock and roll and contemporary music. Although Mr. Nile focused on songs from his critically acclaimed “Streets of New York” and “American Ride,” Willie also treated the appreciative crowd to a couple of Buddy’s best tunes. Attendees who had never seen Willie perform left The New Roscoe fully understanding why he, like Buddy before him, is considered a legendary performer.

TBHEF co-founder Maria Elena Holly is a great admirer of Willie Nile’s work as both a songwriter and performer, so we are very pleased to announce Maria Elena personally invited Willie to become the recipient of a unique guitar from the Foundation, and we are delighted to confirm that Willie has enthusiastically accepted the invitation. Willie will not only receive the “Heartbeat” guitar, but he has also graciously agreed to become an official Ambassador for the Foundation promoting musical education for young people and young artists.

We look forward to working with Willie, and we know that the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation will benefit greatly from his ideas and input.

Welcome on board Willie Nile!
