Foundation Ambassador Dave Stewart awards “Words Of Love” Buddy Replica Guitar to Waddy Wachtel
The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation is delighted to announce that Waddy Wachtel joined the Foundation as a Legacy Ambassador on May 21, 2013 in a ceremony at the iconic Capital Studios in Los Angeles, California. Lifetime Legacy Ambassador Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics and Foundation Board Member Peter Bradley, Jr. made the presentation on behalf of TBHEF, graciously presenting a replica of Buddy Holly’s original Gibson guitar, the “Words Of Love” guitar, to a very special and unique musician, Waddy Wachtel.
Since the 1960’s, Waddy has built up a truly enviable reputation as one of the most sought-after and in-demand session musicians in the world. The huge respect he has from the music industry is remarkable, as Waddy has graced many of the most successful and credible recordings of the past forty years a guitarist. For Grammy Award-winning producers such as TBHEF Lifetime Legacy Ambassador Peter Asher, Waddy is still the first person to call when heading into the studio or producing an event. Over the years, Peter’s brilliant production skills and Waddy’s incomparable music virtuosity helped create memorable hit records for Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks, James Taylor and Jackson Browne and more recently, Keith Richards and the fantastic “Listen To Me” Buddy Holly Tribute album.
Mr. Stewart awarded Mr. Wachtel the “Words of Love” guitar, which had been crafted specially by internationally famous luthier Dan Roberts. The guitar is an exact replica of Buddy Holly’s 1943 Gibson J-45, sporting a custom-made leather cover just lie the one Buddy made for his own guitar. The “Words of Love” guitar contains a fret from Buddy’s original guitar, as we say, “This fret from Buddy’s hands …to your soul.,” and is named after Buddy’s hit “Words of Love” song, famously covered by the Beatles on their early album “Beatles for Sale.”
Mr. Wachtel will join Mr. Stewart as an Ambassador to the Foundation. Ambassadors assist the Foundation in promoting Buddy and Maria Elena’s Holly’s dream of promoting musical education for young people, particularly young artists, helping them to follow in Buddy’s big footsteps while avoiding his mistakes by educating artists about the pitfalls of the music business.
The presentation was held in the historic Capitol Studios in Hollywood, where classic albums from legends such as Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, Nat King Cole, and The Beastie Boys were recorded. Waddy, Dave, and Peter, Jr. were joined by Jason Everly, son of the legendary superstar and close friend of Buddy Phil Everly, and friends and family, for the presentation, speeches, and even a little picking and singing. The Foundation will be posting photos and video from the event, as well as an Official Salute to Mr. Wachtel, in the coming weeks.
We are proud that Waddy Wachtel joined the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation as an Ambassador and the recipient of the “Words Of Love” guitar. All of us at the Foundation look forward to working alongside Waddy and our other illustrious International Ambassadors in helping to achieve the “dreams and wishes” of Buddy and Maria Elena Holly in promoting musical education for young people and artists.
Welcome on board Waddy!
